I've been diabetic for 23 years
I'm a 48 year old woman from North Eastern Oklahoma. I've been a diabetic for 23 years now resulting from a pregnancy. I have become very insulin resistant to where I need to take U-500 insulin. It has helped me loose a lot of weight though because all that insulin isn't in my body anymore. Only a small amount instead of over 120 units per shot. Now I only take 20 units. Much better. I love my new doctor and my new health team.

Kathryn,
U-500 is a 5X more concentrated form of insulin. It does help when individuals are just not getting the insulin coverage they need with the lesser concentrated insulin. I am so happy that your new doctor and health care team recognized your need for U-500. Sounds like you are happy and doing much better on this insulin. Great! We are here for you if you need us or have any questions. :)

Thanks Sysy and Amy!
Actually at this time I have lost a total of 12% of my body weight. I am doing good at this time. I know however, that if I don't watch it closely I can plummet fast. Being vigilant is important. We are all human. Diabetes is something that won't go away no matter how much we wish it away. It is always lurking in the background waiting to pounce. Sometimes it may be a high blood sugar or a sore that wont heal. It is part of who we are now. We need to learn to tame the beast! :)
