Meet Nathaniel Hudson
You can't get much different than the two jobs Nathaniel Hudson has had since graduating from college. For two years he was the program director of a Boy Scouts camp, outside and on his feet all day. Since last fall, he's been a Patient Care Representative at the Diabetes Care Club, inside and on the phones all day. "It's been a huge lifestyle change,"; he says. To adjust to the more sedentary job, he visits the DCC staff workout facility on his breaks and he's looking into the logistics of having a treadmill workstation (no really, it can be done). We caught up with Nathaniel recently to see what else was on his mind
Interview
Why he likes working here...
His patients, of course, but he also appreciates the company and where it's going. "One of the goals of the company is to be ranked as one of the top 100 companies to work for," Nathaniel says. "I like that that is an expressed goal. Plus, they're relentless in asking for our feedback."
How he's gotten better at his job...
"I care about people and I'm thorough, which in the beginning meant I was spending way too much time on the phone getting every little detail about their situation," he says. "With the help of a coach, I still am getting all the details, but in a little less time. My supervisor sees the silver lining, though. He says he can appreciate the fact that he can trust that I'm not going to cut corners just to get a sale."
Something he'd like to get off his chest...
His dad has diabetes and recently needed to start testing. Nathaniel helped him pick out a blood glucose meter, but dad ended up signing up with another diabetes testing supplies company. "Someone just called him out of the blue," Nathaniel says. "I did tell him, 'Dad, you know we do that here!"
