Frequently Asked Questions

Billing/Insurance Questions

Q: Why do I have a balance when I have Medicare?

A: Medicare requires beneficiaries meet a deductible at the beginning of each calendar year. Also, beneficiaries must pay a 20% coinsurance amount for each order. If you have secondary insurance coverage, the amount that you owe could be reduced or even eliminated.

Q: I have Medicare, but you billed an insurance company. Why?

A: Some Medicare beneficiaries have chosen a Medicare Advantage plan, instead of using the traditional Medicare Part B benefits. In this case, we bill the Medicare Advantage plan, which has a similar or the same name as many common insurance companies.

Q: How is my financial responsibility determined?

A: A patient's financial responsibility is determined by Medicare, Medicaid and/or the insurance company we billed. DCC bills primary and secondary insurances; once all claims have been processed, DCC will then bill a patient for the amount Medicare, Medicaid or the insurance company states is the responsibility of the beneficiary.

Q: I can't afford to pay my bill with DCC. Do you offer any financial assistance programs for which I can apply?

A: Yes, DCC offers a financial assistance program. Call us to see if you qualify. If you do qualify, DCC will waive any coinsurance or deductible amounts which would normally be the patient's responsibility.

Q: How can I pay my bill?

A: You can mail a check, money order, or provide your credit/debit card information on your statement. You can also call us and we can take you credit card payment by phone.

Q: How long does it take for a payment to be posted to my account?

A: Payments are posted to the account within 3-5 business days after the payment is receive.

Q: What other products do you carry?

A: DCC provides diabetic testing supplies and an external pump for treatment of Erectile Dysfunction.

Q: When am I eligible for a new meter?

A: Medicare will cover a new meter every 5 years.

Q: Do you carry insulin?

A: Currently we only provide our patients with “Durable Medical Equipment” but plan to offer pharmaceuticals in the near future.

Q: What is the important document I just received with my order?

A: The Assignment of Benefits form allows DCC to bill your insurance providers for your supplies, ensuring you will not have to handle the paper work!

Q: What do I need to do if my meter is reading inaccurately?

A: Meters can give inaccurate readings for a number of reasons. First, check your expiration date on your bottle of strips. Also, even if the strips have not reached their expiration date, they do still expire if the bottle has been opened for longer than 90 days. Diabetic test strips use chemical enzymes to measure a patient's glucose levels. After 90 days, those enzymes begin to break down and no longer give accurate readings. If the strips are not expired and have not been open for more than 90 days, perform a test using Control Solution. If the reading is outside of the accepted range labeled on the bottle of strips, please contact Diabetes Care Club.

Q: Do you offer additional support?

A: Yes! DCC offers all patients free access to our DCC Connect member community website. Not only can you connect with others and submit questions for a Diabetes Educator, you can also download cookbooks and share your story with other members.

Q: If it is not time for my reorder and I am out of strips, how can I get more?

A: If you are testing more often than your testing frequency allows on the prescription we have from your doctor, you may run out of supplies before your first available ship date. If your doctor will approve of a higher testing frequency we can fax them the paperwork for an updated prescription. We will then be able to send you a supplemental order of testing supplies before your next 90-day order is due to ship.

Q: A prescription request was sent to my new doctor already. Why have I not received my order yet?

A: DCC must receive the signed prescription from your physician before any supplies can be sent. We send testing supplies only in accordance with your doctor's wishes.

Q: Where does Diabetes Care Club ship supplies?

A: Diabetes Care Club Services are available in most of the US and Puerto Rico only. We do not serve Canada or any other areas at this time.
