Question

I have type 2 diabetes and is on medication, metfomin and glucotrol. I have developed ED as a complication and have tried viagra but seems not to be working. I would want to know an alternative effective medicine even herbals.

Amy's Answer

Erectile Dysfunction (ED) is a common side effect in men with diabetes primarily due to the elevation in blood sugars over a period of time and is the most common symptom men usually present with when diagnosed with diabetes. When blood sugars are elevated for long periods of time, blood flow is restricted to the extremities and nerve damage may occur causing ED. So, what can you do about this?
To my knowledge, there is no documented evidence to support that any herbal medications improve ED. However, the best remedy for improvement in ED is achieving good glucose control. Taking steps to managing your blood sugars, taking medications as directed, eating a balanced diet and getting your daily dose of exercise each day. In addition, you can always speak to your health care provider about another medication that can assist you with ED if Viagra is not successful after blood sugars are well managed. I hope that this helps.
