What do YOU think about Paula Deen?

I am interested in hearing other people's perspective on the recent news that Paula Deen has type 2 diabetes...thoughts?

Frankly I'm tired of people saying that we shouldn't eat the food she cooks on her show. Everything in moderation. I have a couple Paula Deen recipes that I make probably once a year. And I really doubt that she's eating everything she cooks/discusses on her show for every meal.

I heard someone on the radio say something along the lines of eating just one of her dishes "will give me diabetes." Pretty much pissed me off, mainly because of the ignorance.

I also wish people would remember that there is a genetic component to diabetes.

We don't know her personally and therefore can't judge her lifestyle.

She is a person that was diagnosed with diabetes and that makes me sad. Diabetes is tough even for celebrities and especially the ones who make a living making food that some would call unhealthy.

I love that she a real person who is making small changes. She is not quitting what she does and going on a no carb diet. That is not realistic. More people will be able to relate to her journey and every journey starts with one step.

I agree with you both. I think a lot of people can relate to her, as you said George, and therefore she has the potential to be an inspiration to many. She's talking about how she walks everyday and is focusing on managing diabetes rather than running away from it or ignoring it and I think there is a lot of merit to that. There are so many non diabetic cooks/bakers out there who make desserts and other rich kinds of foods and they don't get vilified in the media. I think it's a shame that she has been put under fire. That said, I do wish her the best and I hope that she is able to do the best things for her health. And I hope she does more to acknowledge the role that diet plays with type 2 diabetes. I don't see the good in leaving that out just as I don't see any good in the media going at her as if she is to blame for all our health problems.

America is in an epidemic of Type 2 diabetes. We as a nation are taking in more than we expend and are very limited on our activity level and our diet has become excessive in carbohydrates, calories and fat. Paula Deen is no exception to what we have already seen in our culture today.
There are so many individuals walking around with type 2 diabetes right at this moment that have no idea that they have diabetes.
I am happy that she is aware and I am hoping that she gains control of her diabetes like I am hoping everyone else has the control they need to prevent complications from mismanagement over time.

I think people should remember how hard diagnosis day is, and not be so harsh on her. My heart goes out to anybody getting news of having diabetes, and while her food is certainly not "diabetic friendly", I still admire her sharing her brave diagnosis with the world.

I adore paula deen. Its sad shes been targeted and villified so cruely, no need for it....after all, we make our choices, to hold her responsible for my choices is just craziness! And im astounded that those that attack her dont factor in the genetic component. I hope strength for her.
